Active Learners

I really think that reading "church books" is a interesting exercise in serendipity and/or fate.  I started reading Elder Bednar's book, Increase in Learning about a year ago and just really struggled with it for the whole first chapter.  Then I set it aside.  It wasn't that I didn't think it was good stuff--it just wasn't for me right then.

I finished Women and the Priesthood by Sister Dew a few weeks ago and kind of wanted another church book to be near at hand in case I felt the urge to read a few pages.  I picked up Elder Bednar's book to make another stab at reading it.

Holy cow, it is like a totally different book this time around.  How does that happen?  Why does that happen?  I'm still only one chapter in but my journal is filled with notes and I was motivated enough to put in the supplemental cd and listen to parts of that.

I don't have anything profound to say.  I just think it is so strange that "church books" and certain passages of scripture can have a different impact at different times.
